Welcome to the PLATINA Innovation Database
Why is this here?
Innovation is crucial to the further development of inland navigation. New approaches and solutions in ship technology and operation can be used to optimize the environmental and economic performance of the sector. But innovation only works if new ideas are shared and implemented. The PLATINA project is exploiting the power of innovation through the creation of this innovation database which will provide a platform for the collection and exchange of knowledge on research and innovations in the field of inland waterways transport.
This database is an ongoing development throughout the lifetime of the PLATINA project provided by representatives of the sector for the sector: Based on the knowledge and experiences of both research and industry, it addresses experts and actors within the sector by giving access to present developments in this field throughout Europe. It aims to speed up and facilitate technology transfer inside the inland navigation market and provides an overview on innovative concepts and solutions.
Presently, the database is a preliminary instrument. It starts with a few innovations and will be enlarged gradually in the course of time. At the same time the benefits for the IWT sector will grow accordingly.
How does this work?
The database is based on a Wiki-approach. A wiki is a website that uses wiki software, allowing the easy creation and editing of interlinked Web pages, using a simplified markup language or a text editor. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites, to power community. The main advantage of the Wiki-approach is that external users can enter their contributions, experiences and comments into the system, which we would urge you to do.
All contributions are structured with the help of a template which ensures that they are easy to read and access. The template allows entries of different forms like texts, photos, tables etc.
As this wiki is about innovations in inland waterway transport, any off-topic entries will be removed by the moderators.
Who can use this?
Presently, while the test phase is running, only certain experts have writing access. However, this user group will be enlarged in the course of the project. Basically, this addresses all qualified users. Hints and comments as regards the database itself are possible and welcome.
